One Day in Ljubljana
Day 1
Ljubljana, Slovenia
I had one day to visit Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital. It's a relatively small city, so I was able to easily walk from one point to another.
Kavarna Zvezda, Slovenia
I started my day with a breakfast at Zvezda Cafe, where I tried some traditional Slovenian pastry, which I found delicious and they gave me energy for the day.
Tivoli Park, Slovenia
I continued my tour with a walk in Tivoli Park, which is the biggest park in the city and actually very beautiful. It's a green park with alleys and filled with statues and chestnut tree-lined lanes. The mai alley of the park is Jakopičevo and it leads to beautiful Tivoli Mansion, an 18th century villa.
Nebotičnik, Slovenia
I made my way to Ljubljana's iconic Skyscraper, Nebotičnik. It's called skyscraper as the 13 storey building was the tallest residential building in Europe when it was built in 1933. The building is open to visitors and you can go inside to admire art deco architecture and spiral staicase.
Miklošičeva cesta, Slovenia
I walked on Miklošičev Streets, which is a streets with art nouveau buildings and apartment houses. The explanation for that is the earthquake that took place in 1895. After that, some key architectural projects were given to architects influenced by Austrain style.
Triple Bridge, Slovenia
I arrived at the popular Triple Bridge. It's a beautiful spot where people use to stop and take photos. Built in 1929, the bridge is decorated with curvy lampshades and Renaissance balustrades which give the the bridge a Venetian air.
OLD TOWN Rooms and Apartments, Slovenia
Ljubljana has a fantastic old town. It has a Mediterranean feel, with fountain squares and Baroque mansions, churches and cobbled streets. I enjoyed walking on the narrow streets of the old town.
Ljubljana Central Market, Slovenia
NIce atmosphere in Ljubljana Central Market, where local people sell and buy fruit and other products. It's also home to Open Kitchen, an event held on Fridays from spring to autumn and you can try some of the delicious dishes prepared there.
Ljubljana Castle, Slovenia
I made my way to Ljubljana Castle, sitting above the old town. Because of its location, there's a nice view over the city, with mountains in the background. Now a museum, it was once used as provincial jail and as a refuge for the poor.
Dragon Bridge, Slovenia
Checked the Dragon Bridge, with its four bronze dragons
Metelkova Art Center, Slovenia
One of the most interesting attractions in Ljubljana is Metelkova Art Center. It's a former military zone, now transformed into Ljubljana’s alternative cultural hub.
Pop's place, Slovenia
I ended my day in Ljubljana with a burger and a local beer at Pop’s Place, on the riverside.
