Day 1
Florence, Italy
Usually visited within a tour in Tuscany region of Italy, Florence deserves at least one full day. Here's an itinerary that made me fall in love with the city.
Accademia Gallery, Italy
Because I arrived in the city by train, my first stop was Accademia Gallery, which is on the way from the train station to the city center. It's a beautiful art museum with artworks by by Michelangelo, Renaissance paintings and Russian icons.
Mercato Centrale, Italy
Not far from Academia Gallery, it's Mercato Centrale, a place where you can grab a snack and good coffee. It's actually a nice market place on two stores with a great variety of Italian food and products.
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Italy
The next stop was Florence Cathedral Of Santa Maria Del Fiore, Il Duomo. Duomo is a massive cathedral in the center of Florence built during Florentine Renaissance.
Gelateria Edoardo, Italy
It was there in Florence that I found out that the famous gelato italiano (the Italian ice cream) was born right there in Florence. Gelateria Edoardo is a family business and they sell one of the best ice creams I tasted.
Ponte Vecchio, Italy
I then reached Ponte Vecchio, the famous Florence landmark, the image that you see on most postcards from the city. This is the only bridge to cross the Arno River that wasn't destroyed during Second World War. It's a covered bridge, now home to jewelry shops.
Piazza della Signoria, Italy
Not far from Ponte Vecchio is Piazza Della Signoria, a stunning square surrounded by statues, monuments and fountains.
Palazzo Vecchio, Italy
It's here in Piazza della Signoria that stands Palazzo Vecchio, meaning Old Palace, now home to the town hall of Florence.
Uffizi Gallery, Italy
Uffizi Gallery is one of the most important art galleries in the world displaying an impressive collection of paintings and artworks, Renaissance masterpieces. If you want to visit, you have to book way in advance.
