Perugia, Italy
Perugia is the capital of lovely region of Umbria in Italy. Located in the center of the country, at the foot of Apennine Mountains, the city is one of Italy's "secrets" as it is a bit shadowed by other more famous Italian cities and areas.
The Fontana Maggiore, Italy
We arrived in the center of the town, in beautiful Fontana Maggiore square. Built in the 13th century, the fountain sitting in the middle of the square is a lovely marble fountain with carvings of biblical scenes and zodiac signs. It was always an important meeting point.
Palazzo dei Priori, Italy
Sitting in the main square of the city, Palazzo dei Priori is a beautiful Gothic palace from 13th century now housing the National Gallery, with exhibits of regional art.
Perugia Cathedral, Italy
Also in the main square, Perugia Cathedral is a beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral with fine paintings and fresoes at the interior.
Rocca Paolina, Italy
We left the very center of the city and wandered the streets of the old town. We visited Rocca Paolina, a remains of a Renaissance fortress in Perugia, built in 16th century for Pope Paul III.
Arco di Sant'Ercolano, Italy
Walking the streets of Perugia, you can admire every here and there the old defensive walls around the historic center.
Etruscan Arch, Italy
Beautiful arch, one of 7 in the city that served as an entrance to the city of Perugia. It is considered the best remaining example of the cities original defences.
Via dell'Acquedotto, Italy
We walked on Via dell’Acquedotto, which is an ancient path that used to serve as an aqueduct providing fresh water for the city. There are beautiful views over the city as you walk on the path.
