Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Mostar is an interesting and beautiful city on the southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sitting on the Neretva River, the place is known as "the divided city" as on one side of the river there live Bosniak Muslims and on the oder side Christian Croats.

Old Town, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We arrived in the Old Town of Motor and started our visit from here. We walked along the nice cobblestone streets of the town with both old Ottoman architecture and Austro-Hungarian neoclassical houses. There's a oriental atmosphere in the old town with Turkish cafes and street bazaars.

Old Bridge, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Old Bridge is Mostar's most famous landmark. The actual Old Bridge is a reconstruction of the 16th century Ottoman style bridge that was destroyed in 1993 during the Yugoslav war. The Islamic architecture bridge is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and it connects the two nations living on the river's left and right banks.

We checked the War Photo Exhibition that to learn about the city's turbulent past and the civil war in the 90s.

Turkish Bazaar, Mostar Old Town, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We also checked the Turkish Bazaar in Mostar Old Town and bought some oriental souvenir.

Lagero, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We stopped to eat at Lagero. We sat on the terrace offering spectacular view over the river.

Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We then crossed the bridge on the other side entering the Bosnian side. We visited Mehmed-Pasha Mosque and admired the Ottoman mosque architecture and the colourful rugs and frescioes inside. We climbed to the top of the minaret, there are beautiful views over the city and the river from there.

Biscevic House, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Biscevic House is an beautiful example of a traditional house in Mostar. The house as build in 1635 during the Ottoman period. Not far from this house is another beautiful one, Muslibegović house.
