Bratislava
Day 1
Bratislava, Slovakia
Bratislava, Slovakia's capital, is one of the most charming central European cities. It's a small city, so you can visit it over the weekend or even as a day trip from Vienna, like we did, as it's very close.
Slovak Radio, Slovakia
Bratislava has some communist era heritage that is actually cool to explore. In the city you can spot socialist architecture buildings of the 60s and 70s that add some charm to the city. Some of these buildings even became landmarks of Bratislava, like the Slovak Radio building with its upside-down pyramid shape.
Freedom Square, Slovakia
Adter admiring the funny shape radio building, we moved to Freedom Square, the central square with a flower steel fountain in the middle of the square.
The Old Market Hall, Slovakia
The Old Market Hall houses farmers’ market on Saturdays. If you happen to be in Bratislava on Saturday, pay a visit, it's a good place to grab something to eat as well.
Kamenné Námestie, Slovakia
Kamenne Square is just opposite the Old Market Hall. It's an interesting socialist square at the beggining of the old town in Bratislava.
Old Town Hall, Slovakia
We arrived in the city's old town with nice medieval architecture. We got lost on the cobblestone streets and cute squares and stummbled upon interesting statues like Čumil statue that comes out of a manhole.
St. Martin's Cathedral, Slovakia
We visited St. Martin’s Cathedral, the beautiful Gothic cathedral which is the oldest and the largest church in Bratislava.
Michael's Gate, Slovakia
St. Michael’s Gate is the only preserved city gate in Bratislava. It is a reminder of the fact that the town was once a fortified town. Today it houses the Museum of Arms.
Hviezdoslav Square, Slovakia
Hviezdoslavovo Square is a long square lined with many bars and restaurants.
UFO Lookout Tower, Slovakia
The most spectacular view over the city and over Danube River that flows through Bratislava can be admired from UFO Observation deck.
Bratislava Castle, Slovakia
Bratislava Castle situated up on a hill is probably the most famous spot in the city. It's an easy climb to the castle that you can visit during the day. Also in the evening, you can enjoy a nice sunset from the castle's courtyard.
Bratislava Flagship, Slovakia
We enjoyed a good Slovak dinner at Bratislava Flagship Restaurant. It's an interesting restaurant set in a monastery building.
