One Day in Cork
Day 1
Cork, Ireland
The city of Cork, in South Ireland is a cool city known for its history, beaches, good food and fine coffee spots. We were in Cork for one summer day and we simply loved our time spent there.
Good Day Deli, Ireland
We started our full day in Cork with a good breakfast and a coffee at this super nice place, Good Day Deli in the center of the city. Not only that the place is really nice, but they even serve healthy and organic food made with local products.
FitzGerald Park, Ireland
After breakfast, we took a walk along the River Lee and in FitzGerald Park, which is a nice popular place with walking paths, fountains and monuments.
Cork City Gaol (Museum), Ireland
We arrived at Cork City Gaol. It's a super interesting spot. It looks like a castle and it used to serve as prison until 1923. There are guided tour that you can book to learn more about the interestig history of the place.
Blarney Castle, Ireland
We then had a short drive to visit Blarney Castle, a medieval stronghold, nor far from Cork. Once there, we had to climb a a narrow staircase to the top of the castle to and to this "magical" stone on top of it.
Cobh, Ireland
After the castle, we had a drive towards the historical town of Cobh. Situated in the south of Cork, on an island, in Cork's harbour, it is the Titanic's last port of call in 1912. I personally very much liked the view with the row of those cute colorful houses stretching up a steep street in Cobh. They are known as the Deck of Cards.
Fota Wildlife Park, Ireland
On the way back to Cork, we made one more stop, at Fota Wildlife Park. It's a nice green spot with animals from different parts of the world.
English Market, Ireland
Back to Cork, we checked an iconic place of the town, the English Market. Open in 1788, the traditional market is one of the oldest municipal markets and it offers fresh bread, seafood, chocolates, wines and more.
